China photo exhibit opens new door for Tagum City's progress

Tagum City (20 November) -- Political and trade officials of the government China recently visited the city to exchange programs that would expand the city's rapid development just like what is China today.

The Honorable First Secretary, Wu Chian Hua of the Embassy of the People's Republic of China officially represented the Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines, His Excellency Liu Jianchao, to discuss some development programs with the local government.

Hua also graced the opening ceremonies of the 35th Philippines-China Bilateral Agreement Anniversary Photo Exhibition on November 16, 2010 at Tagum Trade and Cultural Center Pavilion, this city.

"Over the past 35 years, the friendship between our two countries has been continuously growing stronger. We witness in the past 35 years political trust continued to be enhanced between our two countries, trade increased by a huge margin, economic cooperation expanded in various fields with concrete results, cultural exchanges were significantly enriched," Hua said in her message.

In the exhibition, the modernization and continued improvement of Chinese community was featured in a different presentation from industrial to cultural, commerce and health services which Tagum is now servicing in Davao Region and the whole Mindanao.

Right now, the city generated about 20 Chinese investments mostly of general merchandising in which the latest is the coming of 168 Mall situated beside the newly constructed and soon to open Tagum Chinese School in Apokon Road, Barangay Magugpo East.

"Tagum gives us good memories during our first visit and we are looking into various areas of trade here," said the Chinese official.

With this opportunity it opens the city's new door of progress while celebrating the many great moments of amity and sincerity between the two nations.

Gracing the showcase who personally welcomed the Chinese officials were City Mayor Rey T. Uy and City of Tagum Tourism Council chair Alma L. Uy, together with the city councilors and City Administrator Rafael Abrenica, who discussed the city's potentials for partnerships in terms of agriculture and investments.

Present also during the ceremony was Governor Arturo T. Uy of the Province of Compostela Valley who personally invited the Chinese officials to visit his province the following day.

This special event was anchored by the Tagum Filipino-Chinese School and Chamber of Commerce Foundation, Inc. headed by Dr. Bernardo Ang, in partnership with the city government of Tagum and Tagum Tourism Council.

The group proceeded to the Freedom Park after the formal opening to witness the traditional holiday tree lighting ceremony. (CIO-Tagum, Tourism, Jun Jamero) [top]
