6th Knowledge Exchange Conference for Community eCenters spotlights innovation for strength, sustainability
Tacloban City (November 26) -- The 6th Knowledge Exchange Center for Community eCenters which was held on November 24 to 25, 2010, gathered ICT leaders, champions, CeC workers and stakeholders who tackled the issue "Innovate for Strength and Sustainability."
Held at the Cebu Parklane International Hotel in Cebu City, the KEC6 was a convenient avenue of learning and sharing as Community eCenters (CECs) prepare to face a host of new issues and challenges.
In his keynote message to the 230 participants, CICT Chair Ivan John E. Uy said that parallel to the efforts of the national government to develop the Medium Term Philippine Development Plan under the Aquino Administration, the CICT is leading the efforts in putting together the Philippine Digital Strategy 2011-2016, which is the successor plan to the Strategic Roadmap 2006-2010.
One of the key targets in this Strategy, the CICT Chairman said, is universal access and digital inclusion for Filipinos.
A joint activity of the Commission on Information and Communications Technology (CICT) and the Philippine Community eCenter Network (PhilCeCNet), this year's KEC also kicked-off key activities that will chart the new direction of the CeC movement in the Philippines.
KEC6 was highlighted, among others, with the launching of the Philippine CeC Strategic Roadmap for 2011-2016, the Telecentre Women Campaign and the 2nd PhilCeCNet General Assembly.
Another highlight of KEC6 is the presentation of the Philippine Digital Inclusion Champion Award to champion mayors and partners.
The event also saw the awarding of the grand winners of the 1st CeC Excellence Award winners for the outstanding Community eCenter and Community eCenter Knowledge Worker.
The conference featured learning sessions on the five thematic areas of e-governance, health, livelihood, agriculture and environment. (PIA 8) [top]
