CHR enjoins government agencies to recite "Panata sa Karapatang Pantao" on December 6

Tacloban City (December 4) -- The Commission on Human Rights called on all government agencies and institutions to recite the Panata sa Karapatang Pantao on Monday, December 6, during their Flag Ceremony.

Atty. Paquito M. Nacino, Regional Director of the Commission on Human Rights in Region 8 informed that December 4 to 10, 2010 has been declared as National Human Rights Consciousness Week pursuant to Republic Act 9201.

This is in observance of the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights by the United Nations, which culminates every December 10.

The entire country celebrates the National Human Rights Consciousness Week starting December 4-10, with the Commission of Human Rights as the lead agency.

The celebration is pursuant to Republic Act Number 9201, Section 4 which states that all levels of education and learning institutions, both public and private, shall celebrate the week through simple and appropriate ceremonies and activities to propagate, particularly among the students, a human rights culture that aims to sustainable development in the country.

This is in observance of the proclamation and adoption of the Universal Declaration on Human Rights by the United Nations 51 years ago. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights is a manifesto of international human rights standards, which is a common standard of achievement for all nations to attain.

All government agencies including government-owned and controlled corporations are enjoined to celebrate the weeklong "National Human Rights Consciousness week" and give more meaning to every individual's rights.

This year's theme is "Karapatang Pantao: Kilalanin, Tuparin, Pagyamanin" enjoins every individual to recognize and promote human rights. Government employees are directed to actively participate in the activities to be undertaken at the national, regional, provincial and agency levels.

In this connection, government agencies are requested to hang their respective streamers in their offices and public places and make the people aware of their basic human rights in relation to the functions and services offered by government instrumentalities.

For its part, the Commission on Human Rights will sustain its commitment of providing protection and equality to every Filipino citizen in the exercise of his individual human rights, through intensive human rights advocacy campaigns.

It is the duty of every Filipino to support and respect individual human rights, the common concern in respecting, protecting and fulfilling the human dignity and rights of each and every citizen.

The complete text of the Panata sa Karapatang Pantao is reprinted here to provide copies to all the government agencies who have been requested to recite this during the flag raising ceremony on December 6, Monday.

Furthermore, this is for every Filipino to read, to understand, and to put into action in his or her daily life.

PANATA SA KARAPATANG PANTAO

Ako'y Mamamayang Pilipino
Tungkulin ko ang kilalanin, igalang at itaguyod
Ang dignidad at karapatan ng bawat tao
Maging dayuhan man o kalahi ko.
