Butuan, Surigao to represent Caraga in national search for child-friendly city and municipality

BUTUAN CITY (October 10) -- Butuan and Surigao city will be Caraga's entry to the national Search for the Most Child Friendly City and Municipality. The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) reveal this, during the Regional Council for the Welfare of Children (RCWC) meeting held, recently.
After bagging an average score of 91 percent during the regional validation, Butuan City will be Caraga's entry to the national search for the highly urbanized city category. Butuan's 91 percent is enough for the city to qualify to the national competition.
On the other hand, Surigao City will be the region's entry for the component city category. Surigao City who compete with Bislig at the regional level garnered an overall score of 93.8 percent during the regional validation. A score significantly higher than that of Bislig who only got 73.5 percent, making Surigao the uncontested representative of Caraga to the search for the component city category.
In related news, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) bared how the Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD) implementation in the region. Based on the report presented, ECCD is now established in 4 provinces, 1 highly urbanized city, 30 municipalities and 1 component city in the region.
The ECCD program has also undertaken social preparation including organization/reactivation of Local Council for the Protection of Children (LCPC) committees in 3 municipalities in Surigao del Sur and 4 municipalities in Surigao del Norte. It has also conducted capability building of service providers of Butuan City and Surigao del Sur. (PIA-13) [top]
