NPA attack on airport property in Negros Occidental condemned

Bacolod City (10 October) -- The government has condemned the attack of the New People's Army at the modern Silay airport north of this city. "The administration vehemently condemns the latest act of terrorism which clearly justifies the government’s strong and relentless campaign against the NPA," said a pronouncement from Malacanang.

The latest offensive of the New People’s Army in this island occured in Silay City where an estimated P30 million cement batching plant was blown up using an improvised explosive.

Also damaged was a generator owned by the contractor Hanjin International that is currently constructing a modern airport in Silay City, expected to open next year. Silay is about seven kilometers north of capital city, Bacolod.

Officials said the attack does not only hamper the livelihood of scores of workers in project but is also an assault on one of the government’s major development projects perceived to be crucial in boosting the economy of the province.

“The government urges the public to cooperate because such terror acts will only effect the economy negatively and embolden political destabilization that will hurt the country and destroy the gains that has already been achieved,” Malacañang officials said.

The military and the police are now crafting a security plan participated in by active and vigilant communities to ensure the safety of the construction site.

The reason for the bombing act is yet unknown although a national broad sheet has reported that refusal to give revolutionary tax could be the root of the violence. (PIA-LOL) [top]
