Cebu City (26 October) -- As the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit is just 45 days away, Central Command has announced that a battalion of Marines and the Army is scheduled to arrive in Cebu on Saturday.
This was based on the information disclosed by Centcom spokesperson Lt. Col. Jefferson Omandam yesterday saying that the impending arrival of the augmentation forces is part of the country's effort to make sure that the heads of state and other delegates attending the international event will be secured fully.
"This is to show that we cannot afford to commit mistakes (in security matters) during the ASEAN Summit," Omandam stressed.
The official also appealed to the public to be proud of what the military does to provide security to the delegates during the conduct of the historical international event.
Expected to welcome the marines and the army on Saturday are local government executives and officials from the military, government agencies, and the media. (PIA 7) [top]
