Capiz LGUs ready to tackle dev't challenge

by Jemin B. Guillermo

Roxas City (19 October) -- All the 16 towns including Roxas city have undergone orientation activity for newly elected officials.

Interior and Local Government Provincial Director Jenny Destua revealed that newly elected officials from the 16 municipalities of Capiz as well as from Roxas City have completed the orientation seminar.

Destua said that elected officials have been urged to undergo the orientation seminar on Newly Elected Officials Foundation for Efficient and Effective Transition (NEOFEET) led by DILG.

Through said activity, newly elected officials would be able to determine the state of their respective local government units, assess the gaps as well as plan out to address said gaps, he said.

Destua added that said officials were also oriented on their duties and functions, essential steps in the first 100 days, the executive and legislative agenda of the local government unit which is anchored on the national visions.

DILG Secretary Ronaldo Puno maintained that the Department is currently focusing its resources this year on further empowering local government units (LGUs) in the delivery of reliable basic services to the citizenry.

Puno said that the department's budget this year amounting to more than P51.38 billion allots a total of P1.518 billion for the supervision and development of LGUs.

He stressed that said budget will also be used to further strengthen the autonomy of the LGUs and train local executives in leadership development, performance management and maximizing their corporate powers. (PIA) [top]
