San Quintin officials bare accomplishments in their 1st 100 days

by Maritess Beņas

SAN QUINTIN, Abra (20 October) -- Newly-elected Vice-Mayor Geroldo C. Aznar opened the regular session of the Sangguniang Bayan to the public last October 15 at the town's social hall to present their accomplishments during their first 100 days in office.

Present during the regular session were Municipal Mayor Amador B. Diaz, department heads of the LGU and the heads of national agencies based in the municipality.

Aznar reported a total of 26 resolutions passed and ordinances enacted by the legislative body from July 2007 to date.

The Vice Mayor took pride that San Quintin now, has a working Sangguniang Bayan dedicated to public service as indicated by their perfect score of attendance during the regular sessions since they assumed office.

Aznar also gave his assurance and commitment to support the executive agenda of the local chief executive with the concern of the general public as foremost in their legislative agenda.

Each member of the SB was likewise given the opportunity to report on his committee accomplishments and barangay assignments.

Beset by the recent outbreak of the dengue in one barangay and the absence of a municipal health physician, the legislators emphasized the urgency of the resolution requesting the Department of Health Secretary Francisco Duque III to assign a rural physician to the municipality under the DOH's Doctor to the Barrios program.

This request is in line with the targets of the Millennium Development Goals of providing improved health care service delivery system to eradicate poverty.

There are also resolutions that were passed to request for funds assistance from the LGU thru Mayor Diaz and the office of Representative Cecilia S. Luna for the improvement of school buildings and facilities to enhance education as well as other infrastructures like flood control systems for public safety as many of the barangays of San Quintin are situated along the Abra River.

In response to the requests of the legislators, Diaz in turn assured them of his executive support, except for the purchase of little things like electric fans for the barangays. The mayor emphasized the need for a shared responsibility among all concerned citizens. Since the barangays have their own revenues, the purchase of facilities which the barangays can afford should no longer be raised to the attention and support of the municipal government.

The conduct of the open session of the local legislators is a display of sincerity in the observance of the Arroyo government's effort to curb corruption and effect good governance thru transparency and accountability of government officials to their constituents. (PIA-Abra) [top]
