Quezon City (10 July) -- The Katipunan ng Maykapansanan sa Pilipinas, Inc. (KAMPI) will join the nation in celebrating the 30th National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation (NDPR) tomorrow, July 11, 2008,from 8:am-3:00pm. Carrying the banner theme, "Kapag may Access, May Success" it will be held in Mandaluyong City Covered Court.

According to KAMPI President Pete Manio, "Ang selebrasyon na ito ay isang paraan para maipakita ng sector namin na kahit na anumang krisis ang dumating sa Pilipinas, nananatili kaming matatag at patuloy na may pagkakaisa sa pagtataguyod ng karapatang pantao namin."

Likewise, KAMPI Executive Director Sonia Rina Figueroa said, "The event will just be a lighter way of celebrating the human rights of persons with disabilities. Through the years, KAMPI is advocating the human rights of PWD in terms of mainstreaming or integrating the sector in the society for the empowerment. KAMPI has been active in advocating and lobbying the UN Convention on Rights of Persons with Disabilities which was ratified by the Philippines last April 15, 2008. For a change, we will have a "Solidarity Day". This is our way of saying that the PWD are united regardless of their type of disability."

Also, the celebration is envisioned to provide an opportunity for KAMPI's member organizations and other stakeholders like parents associations and government agencies, to have camaraderie and interaction in terms of fun activities and games. Assistant Secretary Vilma Cabrera of Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and Mandaluyong City Mayor Benhur Abalos will attend in the occasion. Some celebrities also gave a feeler that they will also join the event.
