Ilocos Region bags 3 Gawad Saka national awards

San Fernando City, La Union (30 July) -- Two enterprising Ilocano farmers and a farmer's organization successfully bagged three national awards in a row, for the first time, during this year's Search for Outstanding Farmers of the Gawad Saka Awards under the auspices of the Department of Agriculture (DA).
A feat which Region 1, through the years, has produced a number of national winners, this year's Outstanding Rice Farmer Award was garnered by Claudio Agcaoile of Vintar, Ilocos Norte while Ricardo Tolentino of Laoag City in Ilocos Norte was picked as the Outstanding High Value Commercial Crops Farmer.
The Vigan City (Ilocos Sur) Agriculture and Fishery Council also won the Outstanding Organization Achievers from the eight entries submitted by Region 1, three of which made it as national finalists.
Individual winners received a cash price of P120,000 and a Presidential trophy and citation while the group category received a cash price of P150,000, a trophy and citation.
Other Gawad Saka regional winners who made it as national finalists include Moises Saladino – an outstanding large animal raiser, Herbert Valdez – an outstanding young farmer and Rogelio ramos and Family – an outstanding farm family. (PIA Region 1) [top]
