Barangay peace and order councils undergo security training

Cotabato City (15 October) -- Amidst current tension obtaining in this part of Mindanao, the city government of Kidapawan is strengthening its barangay defenses against possible attacks by terrorist groups and other lawless elements.

Last week, members of the 40 barangay Peace and Order Councils in the city have undergone a two-day training to improve their defense capability and how to coordinate properly with local security forces such as PNP and Task Force Cotabato. Effective communication, intelligence gathering, monitoring and proper assessment of any given situation in their respective areas.

Kidapawan City Mayor Rodolfo Gantuangco said, it is not remote that terrorist groups may be planning to carry out attacks by using the possible entry and exit points of the city.

He said, the city is located near the conflict areas in Cotabato province and trouble could possibly spill over into the city barangays if ever fighting between government forces and the Lawless MILF Groups erupts.

The city government is set to release P2 million from the calamity fund to purchase additional firearms for their augmentation forces deployed to help secure the city barangays, Gantuangco further said.

Kidapawan City has been placed on constant alert due to threats of possible attacks by terrorist since its neighboring municipalities have not been spared by LMG attacks. (CLC-EBC-ICC Kidapawan City) [top]
