DOLE-9 earmarks P2.81-M for SPES program in Zambo Norte

Dipolog City (7 May) -- The regional office of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has recently disclosed that it allocated P2.81 million for the 40 percent salary-subsidy to students hired under the Special Program for the Employment of Students (SPES) in Zamboanga del Norte this summer vacation.

Henry Tianero, officer-in-charge of DOLE?s district office here said poor students are afforded employment opportunities through SPES every summer vacation so they could save up for their school needs for the next school year. Sixty percent of the salary is going to be shouldered by the employer and the other 40 percent will be subsidized by DOLE.

Aside from P2.18 million allocation for the province, DOLE has also allotted P312 thousand as salary-subsidy to SPES beneficiaries in the city.

In a related development, DOLE has also initiated other livelihood programs to help address the unemployment problem in the region such as the Nurses Assigned in Rural Service (NARS) program, Kabataan Information Technology Opportunities (K-Ito), Nego-Kart project, Kabuhayan Starter Kit and others.

The NARS program has already benefited 632 nurses who are now assigned in the different parts of the region.

K-Ito, on the other hand, has already produced 300 Information Technology (IT) graduates who were given stipends during the entire duration of their training. According to DOLE, it has spent a total of P400 thousand as stipend for the trainees.

Simple house-to-house service-oriented skills training on massage, plumbing, cosmetology, electrical servicing, welding, car wash, cellular phone repair and many others is also given free-of-charge to interested beneficiaries. Various kits worth P170 thousand were already to 44 beneficiaries in the province. (PIA-ZN) [top]
