Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya (October 1) -- The Commission on Elections (Comelec) here has finalized the list of voters for the synchronized Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) and barangay elections this month.
Lawyer Abraham Asuncion, Comelec provincial election supervisor said there were 91,000 voters for the SK polls while there were 235,451 voters for the barangay elections.
The bulk of voters, he said will come from the towns of Bambang, Bayombong and Solano while other voters were counted in the towns of Sta. Fe, Aritao, Kayapa, Dupax del Sur, Dupax del Norte, Kasibu, Ambaguio, Alfonso Castaneda, Villaverde, Quezon, Bagabag and Diadi.
According to Asuncion, the voters for the coming SK and barangay polls will be casting their votes in 782 clustered precincts for the barangay and 287 precincts for the SK levels in the province.
The COMELEC will conduct the synchronized SK and barangay elections on October 25 to 40,000 barangays in the country through the manual mode of counting.
The use of computerized mode of elections for the October 25 polls was dropped due to the huge expenses that will be utilized for its operations such as printing of ballots and purchase of additional voting machines among others.
The COMELEC will be spending P3.2 billion for the conduct of the synchronized SK and barangay elections in the country.
The Comelec had allotted P7.2 billion for the automated May polls, with 82,200 Precinct Count Optical Scan (PCOS) machines just on lease to the country.
It also supposedly spent P21 million more for the conduct of special elections in some areas in Mindanao.
Aside from budget considerations, officials said there was no need to automate the SK and Barangay elections because there would be no transmission of election results unlike during national elections. (PIA NVizcaya) [top]
