5.8 magnitude quake hits Northern Luzon

Sinait, Ilocos Sur (7 October) -- A 5.8 magnitude earthquake hit some areas in Northern Luzon last Monday morning, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) here.
Phivolcs said the epicenter of the quake, which was tectonic in origin and occurred at 9:38AM, was located at 20 kilometers southwest of Babuyan Island with a depth of 10 kilometers.
It said that intensity 4 was felt in Calayan Island in Batanes province while intensity 3 was also felt in Camalaniugan, Cagayan.
Phivolcs warned the possible occurrence of aftershocks after the quake; however, no damages reported after the tremor. (PIA Ilocos Sur) [top]
