Tacloban City lines up activities for children’s month celebration
Tacloban City (October 7) -– The City Government of Tacloban through the City Social Welfare and Development Office and the Local Council for the Protection and Welfare of Children has lined up various activities in observance of the National Children’s Month this whole month of October aimed to raise the public’s awareness.
Ms. Liliosa Baltazar, City Social Welfare Officer revealed that by virtue of Proclamation 267, the month of October was designated to commemorate the Filipino children to emphasize the importance of the role of the child within the Filipino family and within Philippine society.
This year’s activities, Ms. Baltazar informed, will revolve around the nationwide theme which is “Bright Child, Yaman ng Pamilya, Yaman ng Bansa.”
In that connection, Ms. Baltazar said that the Tacloban City Children’s Month Celebration kicked of with the celebration of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass on October 3, 2006 at the Sto. Nino Church in Tacloban City.
On the same day, at 2:00 o’clock in the afternoon, a parade of children was conducted in the major thoroughfare of the City and converged at the RTR Plaza with a short program.
Ms. Baltazar said that on October 11, a playground demonstration on Folk Dance will be conducted at the RTR Plaza while on October 13, a Literary Musical Contest will be conducted at the City Engineer’s Office Gymnasium.
All these activities, Ms. Baltazar informed, will be participated in by the children in all the barangays of Tacloban City particularly those at the Day Care Centers in the different barangays.
