DILG enjoins simple, fitting program for June 12
Iloilo City (4 June) -- The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) enjoined all local chief executives nationwide in collaboration with non-government organizations (NGOs) and people’s organizations (POs) to make this year’s observance of the 109th Proclamation of the Philippine Independence on June 12 more meaningful.
In his directive, Interior and Local Government Secretary Ronaldo Puno, enjoined all provincial governors, city mayors, municipal mayors, punong barangays to conduct simple and fitting programs in line with the celebration.
Puno said the National Historical Institute has lined up activities appropriate for this significant historical event. These activities include the putting up streamers, flags or buntings in all government institutions, public parks, restaurants/hotels, department stores or malls and banks and the Monday Flag Day or National Anthem Ceremony Program to be conducted until June 30.
Slated on June 4 to June 15 are the Kalayaan 2007 Independence Day Events or activities while the Kabayanihan Rizal Day and Fil-Spanish Friendship Day are set on June 18 to 29.
Another activity for this celebration, according to Puno is the “Paggalang sa Watawat” that highlights the observance of the National Flag Day Reverence that started last May 28 to June 30, 2007. The event also serves as the kick-off ceremony for this year’s Independence Day celebration.
Puno likewise encouraged the display of the Philippine Flag in every home, government building, public place and major thoroughfares or roads until June 30. (PIA Iloilo) [top]
