Lawmen uproot P1.5 million worth of marijuana plants in Benguet town

Camp President Quirino, Ilocos Sur (7 October) -- Joint operatives from police and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) in Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) destroyed an estimated P1.5 Million worth of marijuana plants during their latest eradication operation held in the outskirt areas in Kapangan town in Benguet province, it was reported Tuesday here.
PDEA CAR Officer in Charge Director Edgar Apalla told that at least 6,500 fully -grown Marijuana plants were uprooted and about 700 Marijuana seedlings were destroyed in scattered plantations.
Based on the standard set by the Dangerous Drug Board (DDB), the estimated worth of the destroyed Marijuana plants had reached to P1.5 million.
According to Apalla, the lawmen took two days to successfully conduct the operation with the presence of local officials in the area.
He said that they learned the presence of Marijuana plantations in the area through an intelligence reports from their civilian assets. However, no cultivators arrested during the raid.
It was noted that Kapangan is one of the towns that greatly produce Marijuana plants in the country. (PIA Ilocos Sur) [top]
