Bacolod reports lower dog bites in 2006

Bacolod City (2 May) -- Dog and animal bite victims in this city went down and no death was recorded caused by rabies in 2006.

City Health Office record show that there were 1672 dog bites cases recorded last year lower than in 2005 which is 2,091. However, there were seven deaths from rabies in 2005 and zero in 2006.

Last year the City Veterinarian Office vaccinated more than 20,000 dogs. As of April this year it has already administered vaccines to 16,587 dogs, a staff at the veterinary office told PIA.

He said the office charges P10 per head for the vaccination of dogs and cats. Dogs should be three months old before it is ready receive the shot.

Meanwhile,i Impounded dogs at the veterinarian office as of May 2 has reached 43.

To keep the city rabies-free, vaccination and catching of stray dogs is being carried out whole year round, the source further said. (PIA-LOL) [top]
