4.6 magnitude quake hits Surigao
Butuan City (February 13) -- Residents of Surigao del Sur which faces the Pacific Ocean were rattled when a 4.6 magnitude tremor struck the province Friday morning, the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) based in the Carage Region reported on Saturday.
The OCD said there were no reports of damage or injuries from the undersea earthquake that occurred 95 kilometers east-northeast of this capital city of the region.
The quake happened at 9:21 a.m. at a depth of 94.9 kilometers, with the epicenter estimated at 22 kilometers northeast of Tandag City, Surigao del Sur, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
The tremor was felt at Intensity II in Tandag and Tago, Surigao del Sur, and General Luna in Surigao del Norte. (muc/PIA-Caraga) [top]
