PNP leads 'Operation Baklas'

Baguio City (20 February) -- The Commission on Elections has deputized the Baguio City Police Office to lead the'Operation Baklas' in the city of Baguio.

BCPO Director PSSupt.. Agripino Javier said that the COMELEC has tasked the city's police force to remove and take down campaign materials and paraphernalia that are hang or placed on areas which are not designated common posting areas of the COMELEC and the city local government units.

Here in city, barangays have identified just one area in their locality as a common posting area for all the running candidates in the local and national level.

Javier added that he has reckoned the police force look on areas in the city that are not designated by COMELEC as posting areas but still is used by politicians to their advantage.

The Central Business District particularly Session Road is being closely monitored by the police as establishments will be used by politicians to place their elections paraphernalias, Javier added.

The COMELEC is also giving special attention to the trees in the city. Politicians are warned not to place any elections materials on trees. Nailing and tying of campaign materials is illegal and is closely guarded in coordination with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.

Meanwhile, the Baguio Flower Festival grand street and float will also be guarded by the BFF executive committee and the police so that no politicking would be done by running candidates. (PIA) [top]
