Sorsogon gov speaks before 2nd United Cities and Local Government World Congress
Sorsogon City (7 November) -- Governor Sally A. Lee flew to Jeju, South Korea last October 28 for the 2nd United Cities and Local Government World Congress.
The four-day event was spearheaded by the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) which invited governor Lee to present the "Better Urban Planning for Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation" on October 30.
Lee is being known in the country and in international circles for her advocacies on human settlements through her participation in the Gawad Kalinga program of the Couples for Christ Foundation (CCF) as well as in environmental planning.
Earlier, the province of Sorsogon initiated the 2nd Environmental Summit which was attended by a cross-section of provincial and municipal leaders, government officials and non-government organizations (NGOs), among others.
It resulted in the drafting of an environmental code of Sorsogon which will put more muscle into the implementation of Ecological Solid Waste Management (ESWM) laws. It has been submitted to the Sangguniang Panlalawigan for legislation. (MF Deniega, MAIB Sorsogon/PIA) [top]
