Oro mayor supports drive vs. child abuse, exploitation

Cagayan de Oro City (12 February) -- City Mayor Constantino G. Jaraula expressed his strong support to the campaign for the prevention of sexual abuse and exploitation of children.

This even as the city government joins in the celebration of the 12th National Awareness Week for the Prevention of Sexual Abuse and Exploitation this week.

Mayor Jaraula said everybody in the community should take full responsibility in ensuring that children are protected from all forms of exploitation and sexual abuse which can have a damaging effect in their life.

The city mayor pointed out that everyone should take an active role in making their respective communities a safe haven for their children to grow and become healthy, productive members of the community.

Mayor Jaraula likewise urged all couples to support a pro-life stance in choosing a method of birth spacing for their families.

Mayor Jaraula, who is a staunch advocate of the pro-life movement, disclosed that there is no better alternative to using the natural method of family planning which is endorsed by the Church.

The city's observance of the National Awareness Week for the Prevention of Sexual Abuse and Exploitation is in line with the Presidential Proclamation No. 214 which declares the second week of February as Respect And Care For Life Week.

This is also in consonance with the month-long observance of the Pro-Life Month in February which anchors on the theme, "Life For The Future Generation To Come".

The celebration of the Pro-Life Month aims to instill among Filipinos the value and sacredness of the human life; and the rights of the child by reason of his physical and mental immaturity who needs special safeguard and care, including appropriate legal protection before and after birth.
