Ifugao prov'l gov't establishes apprenticeship program

by Vency D. Bulayungan

Lagawe, Ifugao (7 July) -- In an effort to provide opportunity to government employees to gain experience and enhance skills in their field of specialty in the provincial government, the provincial dads here approved an ordinance establishing an apprenticeship program for local graduates in the provincial government and providing funds.

Ordinance No. 2008-05 known as "The Provincial Apprenticeship Program Ordinance" shall provide every interested graduate without bias the opportunity to gain experience and enhance skill in his or her field of specialty in the provincial government.

Authored by the Provincial Board Members Lucio Ayahao Jr. and Robert Humiwat, the said program aims to meet the needs of the economy for trained and skilled workers/employees in the widest possible range of employment. It also wants to establish a local apprenticeship program through the participation of workers, employees, government and other groups.

Ayahao said that this program will establish apprenticeship standards for the protection of the apprentices, workers, employers and the workplace. It will also help reduce unemployment in the province.

The organization of this apprentice program which should not exceed six months shall primarily be a voluntary undertaking of a limited number of 22 apprentices per semester, two apprentices per semester per municipality who shall be willing to abide with the work standards of the Provincial Government. The violation of the prescribed work standards shall result to the forfeiture of the right to participate in the apprenticeship program of the Provincial Government.

According to the ordinance, the Human Resource Development Division of the Office of the Provincial Administrator shall be responsible in the selection of the applicants for this program. For humanitarian reasons, the Provincial Government shall provide an allowance for food and fare of these apprentices while on duty at a daily rate of P150. (PIA-Ifugao) [top]
