PGMA in Cebu to inaugurate bridge project, attend Remonde's funeral
Cebu, Philippines (23 January) -- President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo will be in Cebu tomorrow to inaugurate the P2.6B Cansaga Bay Bridge project at barangay Pakna-an, Mandaue City at 10 in the morning before proceeding to Argao, Cebu for the interment of the late Press Secretary Cerge Remonde.
President Arroyo will unveil the marker at the Mandaue road approach and proceeds to an inaugural drive thru of the Bridge with Gov. Gwen Garcia, Mayors Jonas Cortes of Mandaue City, Arturo Radaza of Lapulapu City, Avelino Gungob of Consolacion, Vicent Frasco of Liloan, DPWH secretary Victor Domingo and 5th district representative Ramon Durano VI.
According to Engr. Nilo Pamaylaon, DPWH-7 project director, the Cansaga Bay Bridge project at Pakna-an, Mandaue City is one of the major infrastructure projects of the Arroyo administration in the Metro Cebu area.
It covers the construction of the bridge across the Cansaga Bay in Manadau City and the two road approaches with a total length of 1,250.651 meters costing the government some P2.6-billion, Pamaylaon said.
It forms part of the overall network system that runs parallel to the existing main north-south line of the Cebu North Coastal Road.
"It is the last remaining road link that will complete the arterial bypass from the southern district of Talisay City, to the central district of Cebu and Mandaue Cities up to the northern district of Consolacion, Liloan, Compostela and Danao City," he added.
The Cansaga Bay Bridge provides new access to the centers of agricultural, industrial, fishing, commercial and tourism growth in the Metro Cebu area and it is expected to decongest traffic at the 2-lane Cebu-North Road of the Mandaue-Consolacion-Liloan Corridor.
After the inauguration, the President will then motor to the St. Michael Parish Church in Argao Cebu to attend the Requiem Mass, Necrological Service and interment of the late Press Secretary Cerge Remonde. (PIA-Cebu) [top]
