by Roberto M. Cabardo
Cebu City (20 October) -- In the Regional Peace and Order Council today, Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia confirms that she is allowing the Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO) to use the Sudlon lot owned by the provincial government under a usufruct arrangement.
The term, the governor said, is good for 25 years but on the condition that the PNP Headquarters will provide a counterpart fund amounting to P10 million for the building, logistics, and equipment needed by the CPPO.
In response, CPPO Director P/SSupt. Vicente Loot said that PNP Chief P/DGen Oscar Calderon has accepted the governor’s challenge for the PNP to provide the fund. He added that the PNP Chief is coming to Cebu before the ASEAN Summit to finalize the agreement between the Cebu Provincial Government and the Philippine National Police.
At present, the CPPO is temporarily occupying a lot in Sudlon near the identified site of government center also owned by the Cebu provincial government. The site known to be the seventh site that the provincial police placed its headquarters.
With the call of Pres. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo to include the police in the internal security operations in the fight against the communist-terrorist groups, the need for a permanent site for the CPPO headquarters is needed.
Garcia announced this development in the presence of the other officials, among them, DTI Regional Director Asteria Caberte, DSWD Regional Director Teodulo Romo, Regional State Prosecutor Ramon Del Prado, Cebu City Police Office Chief Melvin Gayotin, and the host mayor of Danao City Ramonito Durano III.
