SCUAA meet 2006 to end tomorrow

Naval, Biliran (26 October) -- The weeklong athletics competition of the regional SCUAA meet is to end tomorrow with the winners in high spirits and the losers with lessons learned from the competition.
Championship games have been going on with few more games to be played tomorrow.
The meet was officially opened on October 22 and was started with a mass in the morning, a parade of the 11 delegations with their respective muses, a short program and ground demonstration in the afternoon to welcome the delegates.
Delegations to the 22nd SCUAA meet competition are the Leyte Normal University (LNU) of Tacloban City; Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU) of Tacloban City; Southern Leyte State University (SLSU) of Sogod, Southern Leyte; Leyte State University (SLU) of Baybay, Leyte; Palompon Institute of Techonology (PIT); Naval Institute of Technology (NIT); Samar State University (SSU) of Catbalogan, Samar; Samar State College of Agriculture and Forestry (SSCAF) of San Jorge, Samar; Tiburcio Tancinco Memorial Institute of Science and Technology (TTMIST) of Calbayog, Samar; and University of Eastern Philippines (UEP) of Catarman, Samar.
In entertaining the delegates during the opening ceremonies, the host state college, the Naval Institute of Technology (NIT) presented the NIT high school department drum and bugle corps which championed in the Pintados- sponsored regional drum and bugle corps competition held in Tacloban City last October 20.
The NIT drum and bugle corps bested eight other competitors in the entire region 8. Abuyog National High School and Palompon Institute of Technology came second and third places, respectively.
The NIT laboratory high school which championed in the NIT 2005 cheer dance competition also exhibited their youthful skills.
Other dance performers were from the NIT dance troupe, and all college physical education students.
NIT picked alumni David Stetson, Remegio dela Cruz, Freddie Nazario, and Romeo Baco who earned medals in the national SCUAA competitions to light the friendship urn which symbolizes the burning desires of each athlete in playing the games at their best.
The night activities of the SCUAA include the welcome party for the delegates, sports dance competition, talent night, and search for Miss SCUAA 2006.
Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU) bested in sports dance competition while Miss LNU (Leyte Normal University) bagged the title of Miss SCUAA 2006.
This year’s SCUAA meet is the third time to be held here in Naval since its start 22 years ago. The first was in 1989, and the second was in 1995. (PIA Biliran) [top]
