DOLE intensifies employment program

Tacloban (17 October) -- In response to one of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo's thrust which is creation of well paying and stable jobs, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), Region 8 headed by Regional Director Forter G. Puguon intensifies its employment program through conduct of Job Fairs.

According to DOLE Information Officer Designate Virgilio Doroja, for the month of October two Job Fairs scheduled, and this will be on October 18 and 19.

For October 18, a local and overseas jobs fair will be held in Dulag, Leyte thru its local government unit headed by Mayor Manuel Sia Que in coordination with DOLE and the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA). Said jobs fair is scheduled from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Dulag Gymnasium.

It was learned that as one of the highlights of the 1st Leyte Business Month Celebration, another DOLE initiated local and overseas jobs fair still in coordination with POEA and ABS-CBN through its "Trabaho Patrol Program", will be conducted on October 19, at the Trade Hall, SMED Center, Tacloban City.

Nine overseas recruitment agencies and several local employers have confirmed their participation in the jobs fair. Among the overseas recruitment agencies, wherein four are based in Tacloban are the Grand Placement & General Services Corporation; MMML Recruitment Services, Inc.; IUPP, Inc.; Alcare Manpower Services Corporation; East West Placement Center; Mother's Way; Unijobs; MYM; and Pacific Mediterranean.

On the local level, the employers include the Sykes Asia, Inc.; Mistor Dunot; ACE Promotions; AMA Computer College; Fast Distribution Corporation; St. Agustine School of Nursing; Health Station Enterprise; Accudata Inc.; and Swift Foods.

POEA bared that some of the job openings available for overseas are for nurses, cashiers, factory workers, waiters, safety engineering officers, plumbers, domestic helpers, accountants, and other skilled workers.

On the other hand, the local job opportunities are for call center agents, food service crew, sales representatives, accounting clerks, human resource specialist, customer relations specialist/manager, administrative assistant, instructors, and librarian.

Director Puguon encourages job seekers, especially the fresh graduates, to take advantage of these employment opportunities and maximize their time in selecting the best position that will fit their qualification.

Further, job applicants are required to bring with them the necessary documentary requirements when they go to the jobs fair.
