57 participate in Cotabato crisis management and contingency planning exercise

Cotabato City (22 October) -- Representatives from government and none government organizations convened to prepare a crisis management and contingency plan on October 20 to 22 at Grand Estosan Hotel, Cotabato City.

The activity which is a joint undertaking of the British Embassy, Manila; Anti-Terrorism Council-Counter Terrorism Unit (ATC-CTU); Philippine Center on Transnational Crime (PCTC) and Directorate for Integrated Police Operations, PNP-Western Mindanao aims to elevate the awareness of the local government units and empower them to deal with the threats and hazards that they face.

It is also geared towards ensuring the safety and security of critical infrastructure especially the transportation sector and assist stakeholders from the government and private sectors in formulating and testing security plans of regions 9, 12 and ARMM.

PCTC Assistant Secretary Rhoda Poliquit who presented the Philippine Crisis Management Framework emphasized the basic policies to crisis management namely the prompt handling of crises at the lowest level possible, ensuring protection of lives and properties,utilizing peaceful means and other options in the resolution of crisis, coordinating government response to crises and adopting public information management and advocacy.

Above all these, Poliquit said, terrorism is considered a criminal act and that there shall be no compromise with terrorists. (PIA 12) [top]
