Silay City mangrove rehab project documented on film
Bacolod City (10 October) -- A video documentation on the mangrove rehabilitation project and mud crab cultivation in Brgy. Balaring, Silay City, Negros Occidental was filmed for international broadcast by six visiting journalists from Japan.
BS Japan of the production firm Zenkokusha Innovator Ltd., filmed a one-hour documentary on the efforts of IKAW-AKO and the local government of Silay in preserving its coastal areas.
Yasumune Muramatsu, program director, said the documentary will be aired in Japan on January 1 next year and in the Philippines at a later date.
Silay City Vice Mayor Mark Golez and IKAW-AKO coordinator Shintaro Higashiyana initiated the planting along with some 70 girls scouts from Doņa Montserrat Lopez Memorial High School.
A total of 2,500 seedlings of Pagatpat and Bakhaw bought by the visitors were planted.
BS Japan, television channel that documents environmental protection activities of non-government organizations, has also filmed mangrove documentaries in Fiji, Vietnam, Indonesia and Thailand. (PIA/cad) [top]
