All of Panay Island energized this July NEA

Iloilo City (1 July) -- The National Electrification Administration (NEA) reported that power restoration in Panay will be completed this July, during the National Disaster Coordinating Council (NDCC)-Cabinet meeting presided by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, held in Iloilo City today.

Only the town of Carles in Iloilo and four towns in Aklan, namely Balete, New Washington, Libacao and Madalag, remain without electricity as of the moment.

NEA said that they have operationalized Task Force Kapatid wherein 18 electric cooperatives, providing 180 volunteers are working on the islands of Aklan, Romblon, Northern Cebu, Bnatayan, Antique and Capiz.

On the other hand the National Power Corporation said all power plants are in operation while Transco said they have finished the last stretch of power restoration work in Panay, as they work on realigning all 13 structures along Calinog, Iloilo, after having been given local government clearance which they hope to get completed by July 15.

All in all NEA reported a total cost of damage in the amount of Php300 million incurred in 13 provinces and 21 electric cooperatives in the country. (PIA) [top]
