Catbalogan City (July 30) -- In celebration of the 20th anniversary of the 8th Infantry Division (ID), Philippine Army, soldiers and other service men submitted themselves to a blood letting activity today, July 30, 2008.
Assistant Division Commander BGen. Jose Viscarra and Philippine National Red Cross (PNRC) Representative Marcela Pagasartonga witnessed the activity which took place at the camp’s gym.
The bags which contained 450 cc of fresh blood will go a long way in saving lives, said PNRC Rep Pagasartonga.
According to BGen Viscarra, blood letting in the army camp is done three times a year with the army soldiers donating blood.
The army official encouraged the public to donate blood as it is both healthy and noble.
Meanwhile, army servicemen with talents in singing will be pitted against each other as they compete for the “Singing Soldier” throne scheduled tonight at the Catbalogan City Plaza.
Earlier, they also competed for the best “Feature” writer.
Tomorrow, Commanding General BGen Arthur Tabaquero and his army expect several visitors led by Defense Secretary Gilbert Teodoro to serve as Guest of Honor as they hold their commemorative program for the 20th anniversary. (PIA Samar/E Bonifacio) [top]
