Catbalogan City (July 30) -- On July 22, 2008, Catbalogan City Division was born!

Catbaloganons were jolted by the motorcade that drumbeat the birth of Catbalogan City Division.

Although DepEd officials claim it was simple, the opening attracted a big following with a motorcade, ribbon cutting-ceremony and the ceremonial switching of the City Division Sign Board.

Ms. Corazon Abella, Education Supervisor ll of the DepEd Regional Office represented Ms. Sol Matugas, DepEd 08 Regional Director. She joined the city officials in the event that would go down in Catbalogan City’s history.

Samar Division Superintendent Alfredo Dacurro will serve as the temporary superintendent in a concurrent capacity, the public was told.

Dacurro said that the event was just a ceremonial ‘soft opening’ and that the public may expect a grand celebration on DepEd’s anniversary on August 25.

Catbalogan City holds it annual fiesta every August 25.

Earlier on, Catbalogan belonged to Samar Division, it was when the Catbaloganons approved through a plebiscite its cityhood bid that the city ha to necessarily create a new division.

The new Catbalogan City School Division is located in the corner of Rizal Avenue Extension corner 6th street, Catbalogan City.

Mayor Coefredo Uy expressed optimism that the start of the operation would bring a better brand of service to his constituents.

He urged the public to unite with him in his efforts for a better Catbalogan.

The new division consists of five districts, said an official.
