Remonde commends PAPI advocacy
Manila (18 June) -- Press Secretary Cerge M. Remonde has commended the Publishers Association of the Philippines, Inc. (PAPI) "for its deep sense of public advocacy as the beacon of press freedom in our country."
Secretary Remonde made the commendation in a message he issued in connection with PAPI's forthcoming 2009 Midyear Media Conference and 13th Executive Session of Publishers and Editors on June 23-24 at the Makati Sports Club in Makati City.
He stressed that "Issues with serious implications to political stability, social cohesion and economic progress are always on the horizon and we are extremely pleased that PAPI has taken on the challenge to thoroughly dissect them."
The Press Secretary pointed out that holding a dialogue between the "Presidentiables" and the working community press from the regions during the conference clearly "manifests PAPI's all-out commitment in ensuring public awareness on issues of utmost importance to people's lives, a concern shared by the Office of the Press Secretary."
PAPI has invited the candidates for President in the 2010 elections to interface with a panel of selected journalists from the regions during the Community Press Forum of the conference on June 24.
Some 200 publishers, broadcasters, editors, columnists, school publication editors and writers, and other communicators will attend the two-day PAPI press event. (PIA) [top]
