Gov't restores Agno River dike
Manila (28 January) -- President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo inspected Wednesday, January 27, 2010, the newly restored portion of the Agno River dike in Rosales, Pangasinan which was destroyed by typhoon Pepeng last October 2009.
Former Agno River Flood Control Project Director Philip Menez says 16 sections on the Agno River had already been restored.
Restoration of sections outside the Agno River is scheduled to be implemented soon.
Several portions of the Agno River's existing dike constructed in the 1960's were totally damaged by flood coming from the San Roque Dam due to typhoon Pepeng.
As a result, 90 percent of Pangasinan suffered widespread flooding which claimed lives and destroyed properties, and business, agricultural, and fishery products worth millions of pesos. (PIA-MMIO) [top]
