PIA Press Release

Samar beefs up police forces for election day

By Ninfa B Quirante

Catbalogan City (May 7) -- Some 420 Philippine National Police (PNP) elements pulled out from various police units have been deployed to Samar province to beef up the police forces for election day.

In a press conference that ensued, PNP Samar Provincial Director Pancho Hubilla said that the troops will be deployed where they are needed most.

"We are beefing up the police forces to deny entry of partisan armed groups," Hubilla told the Catbalogan and Calbayog media.

He added that he would also like to increase police visibility and make the public ‘feel secure'.

The seven-bus load of PNP elements with more than forty women arrived at ten in the morning with Officers Franco Simborio and Owen Andarino.

Hubilla briefed them as to their duties and responsibilities this election time after which, Samar PNP treated them to a boodle fight for lunch.

In the presscon, Hubilla also emphasized their partnership with the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) whose men are positioned in harder to reach areas.

The augmentation forces will also somehow fill up the gap in the so called ‘ideal troop ceiling'.

The police officer also told the media that Gandara (a recognized election area watch list) has been beefed up before with a platoon of highly trained and highly competent police force.

He said that he is satisfied with his men there who have gained the trust and confidence of the community.

As of press time, augmentation forces started leaving the Samar PNP compound with their marching order, to ensure that Samar will have an honest, orderly and peaceful elections. (PIA-Samar) [top]
