Region 8 Archbishop calls on public to keep faith in election, to pray for divine guidance

Tacloban City (May 7) -- Archbishop Jose Palma of the Archdiocese of Palo, who is the chairman of the PPCRV in the Region declared that the PPCRV in the region remains hopeful that the May 10 elections will push through, despite the alarmists' call for its postponement.

The PPCRV will continue to pray for the success of the first Automated Elections in the country and urged the faithful to also pray hard for enlightenment and guidance.

This was informed by Reverend Father Isagani Petilos, the Vice Chairman of the Region's PPCRV, when he was guest at the Harampang Ha PIA at Gerry's Grill Tacloban on May 6.

Rev. Fr. Petilos said that the PPCRV in the Region had a meeting presided by Archbishop Palma in the afternoon of May 5.

The success of the country's first Automated Election does not depend on the Comelec alone but on all the stakeholders and the Filipino people as a whole, Father Petilos.

Don't blame the Comelec for the glitches in the elections, Fr. Petilos said. It is the responsibility of each and every responsible citizen to see to it that the no election laws are violated.

The Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) has been working assiduously for Clean, Honest, Accurate, Meaningful and Peaceful elections.

It has many volunteers but more would rather serve as watchers for candidates or political parties where they are paid generously, Fr. Petilos said.

Fr. Petilos said that five more parishes in the Region have no PPRCV volunteers. This was discussed during the PPCRV meeting on May 5, he added.

He lauded the volunteers for their social consciousness and for their perseverance despite the fact that they will not earn monitary considerations in the work that they are doing. (PIA 8) [top]
