Trenas, Mabilog, Espinosa win in Iloilo City

Iloilo City (14 May) -- Incumbents Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Trenas, Vice Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog and Councilor Jose Espinosa won the congressional, mayoralty and vice-mayoralty race, respectively in Iloilo City.

Trenas won with 101,304 votes compared with his rival incumbent Congressman Raul Gonzales, Jr. with 76,478 votes and former Mayor Mansueto Malabor with 6,838.

Mabilog earned 80,654 votes defeating his opponent former Justice Secretary Raul Gonzales, Jr. who got 65,509.

In the Vice Mayoralty race, Councilor Jose Espinosa beat Councilors Julienne Baronda with 58,013 votes and Antonio Pesina with 33,072 votes.

Iloilo City's new councilors are: Nielex Tupas, Jeffrey Ganzon, Perla Zulueta, David Jamora, Edward Yee, Jason Gonzales, Joshua Alim, Lyndon Acap, Rodel Fullon Agado, R' Leonne Gerochi, Ely Estante and Plaridel Nava.

The winners were proclaimed by Iloilo City Commission on Elections Acting Election Officer Atty. Roberto Salazar this afternoon at the canvassing center at the Social Hall of the DepEd City Schools Division in Mabini Street, Iloilo City.

The proclamation of winners was done after the Board of Canvassers lowered the threshold of canvassing to 99 percent. (PIA) [top]
