DENR, aggie schools to hold advocacy campaigns on biodiversity conservation, management
Cagayan de Oro City (6 August) -- Member schools of the Council of Deans and Heads of Schools of Agricultural Education, region 10 (CDHSAE-10) has signified their support to the awareness campaign on biodiversity conservation and management of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, region 10.
The partnership was made following the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between the DENR and the CDHSAE-10 members composed of Xavier University-Cagayan de Oro City; Misamis Oriental State College of Agriculture and Technology (MOSCAT)-Claveria, Misamis Oriental; Misamis University-Ozamiz City; Mountain View College-Valencia City;Central Mindanao University-Bukidnon; Mindanao State University-Naawan (MSU-Naawan)-Naawan, Misamis Oriental; and Camiguin Polytechnic State College (CPSC)-Mambajao, Camiguin.
The awareness campaign on biodiversity conservation and management is being pushed by the DENR in consonance with the celebration of 2010 as International Year of Biodiversity (IYB).
The member schools of CDHSAE- 10 shall conduct Information, Education and Communication (IEC) campaign, advocacy and other awareness campaigns on biodiversity conservation during special occasions and other non-academic events of the concerned institutions. The awareness campaign shall involve students and other stakeholders of the organization.
Regional Technical Director Belen O. Daba of the Protected Areas, Wildlife and Coastal Zone Management Services (PAWCZMS) said the DENR shall provide technical assistance and resource speakers to member schools of CDHSAE-10 in the conduct of IEC campaigns and other related activities to biodiversity conservation.
Under the agreement, the DENR shall collaborate with CDHSAE-10 on its initiatives and advocacies that are geared towards promotion on biodiversity conservation and environmental awareness.
