Borongan Eastern Samar (25 April) -- The Borongan Badminton Club (BBC), opened a five-day badminton sports clinic to start on April 25, 2007 and end on May 1, 2007 excluding the weekend. The venue of the clinic is at the Borongan Sports Complex (BOSTRAC), formerly JTR.
According to Mr. Hermano, the liaison officer of BBC, the clinic aims to encourage more people to play badminton, since it is becoming more popular today and also because of its health benefits, and more importantly, to ensure a productive summer vacation for the youth. Mr. Hermano also commented that badminton enthusiasts should at least enroll in basic badminton training like their clinic to avoid illnesses from improper badminton playing techniques.
A registration fee of P700 will cover for the whole duration of the said activity. Mr. Hermano said that they (the trainers) will teach the basics of badminton. These include basic badminton drills, proper racket handling, proper badminton attire, and badminton discipline.
Just recently, BBC joined and became over-all champion in the Summer Fever Badminton Tournament held at Badminton Republic, Tacloban City last April 13-14, 2007. The club still plans top join a bigger badminton tournament in Ormoc City on May 5, 2007. The registration fee of the clinic will fund the clubís participation in the said competition.
