Pilot escapes unhurt in Tagbilaran plane crash

by Rey Anthony Chiu

Tagbilaran City (4 July) -- A pilot escaped unhurt when the nose gear of the plane he was flying solo buckled and toppled midway at the Tagbilaran City runway, around 10:00 am July 4.

The pilot, whom Tagbilaran City Air Traffic Controller Edgar Solis identified as a certain Jay Mar Ortega escaped with barely a scratch but his piloted Cessna single seater plane sustained damages.

Solis, Air Traffic Office (ATO) head here said the pilot was on his routine touchdown-lift-off plan when his plane buckled at runway 35 between markers 3-4.

ATO sources said the pilot was completing his mandatory flight hours when he was landing at the Tagbilaran airport.

After the incident, plane sustained a damaged nose gear and a bent propeller, but the pilot was all right, Solis said.

The plane, bearing RPC 4420 is accordingly owned by Jesup Bahinting and was registered to a Cebu flying school. It was from Mactan International Airport and was guided by the air traffic control here in Tagbilaran when it bucked midway.

Other than minor damages on the plane, a Philippine Airlines commercial flight was slightly delayed until the airport authorities could clear the runway. (PIA) [top]
