DTI-ARMM, LGSPA renew partnership
Cotabato City (10 October) -- The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (DTI-ARMM) and the Local Government Support Program for ARMM (LGSPA) engages in another collaborative effort with the implementation of the Local Economic Development (LED) Program.
The two have entered into a new partnership agreement to enhance LED implementation.
The focus of support is to build the capacity of DTI-ARMM and partner LGUs in implementing LED strategic plans and supporting priority industries as well as to institutionalize LED in DTI-ARMM and LGU processes.
The LGSPA handed over six laptop computers to the Regional and Provincial offices of DTI-ARMM. The beneficiaries are the DTI-ARMM Provincials Offices of Maguindanao, Lanao del sur, Tawi-tawi, Sulu, Basilan and the DTI-ARMM Regional Office. The turnover was held on October 9, 2007 at LGSPA office this city.
Cindy Fair, Field Program Manager of LGSPA said that DTI will take a lead in covering more LGUs to undertake and adopt LED processes. "The computers will be very helpful in building database information to consider the needs of the lower level sector and mobile in their work and always ready."
The equipment provided by LGSPA also aims to strengthen competence build database to support local economy and strategic plans through the laptops and software extended.
DTI-ARMM Assistant Secretary Maritess Maguindra said that LGUs are providers of good practices and services. Support should be given for them to continue the practice. With the assistance from LGSPA, LGUs can be our best partners in the providing good practices.
The partnership marks its third year of bringing capacity-building and technical support to LGUs specific ventures.
LGSPA Project Director Marion Maceda-Villanueva assures their continued support to economic development project in ARMM. She, however, stressed that ARMM government units should take the lead in these endeavors.
Aside from giving computer units, the agreement also include demonstration on video conferencing about Users Training on the Vista Operating System and data management skills build-up for the regional and provincial offices of DTI-ARMM.
