Bangued launches Dapil Festival in Feb. 21-24 town fiesta

Bangued, Abra (15 February) -- This year's celebration of the Bangued Town Fiesta on February 21-24 will launch the Dapil Festival in its bid to "build a tradition of excellence" as the new administration aims for the best out of its own indigenous economic activity.
Bangued, the center of Abra's "panagdapil" will depict the various activities involved in this traditional technology of producing molasses, wine and vinegar out of sugarcane. These will be portrayed by the various floats to be paraded around the town proper on the first day of the celebration.
After the parade, a stage performance also on the dapil activities will be presented at the Bangued Town Plaza to bring back the old memories of this tradition. This is aimed to allow the Abreņos to appreciate this traditional technology which had sustained the livelihood of the many families of Bangued.
Senator Edgardo Angara will serve as the honored guest and speaker during the launching of the Dapil Festival.
Many activities have been initiated by the LGU as inspired by the family of Mayor Dominic B. Valera, who are mostly officials, to attract popular participation. Foremost is the return of the pageant in search for Miss Bangued 2008 and the introduction of indigenous games where people in all ages can participate.
Other sports which used to be enjoyed by everyone like the boxing competition, karambola and basketball competition will also be done. Various activities like competitions on the drums and glockenspiel, street dancing and variety shows will be performed by the various elementary and secondary schools to promote a drug-free youth in this capital town.
