PPA-DOJ 8 celebrates 32nd anniversary of Adult Probation Law
Tacloban City (July 23) -- The Parole and Probation Administration Regional Office 8 is commemorating the 32nd Anniversary of the signing of Presidential Decree 968 otherwise known as the Adult Probation Law of 1976, from July 2 to 24, 2008, Director Arturo O. Gabrieles informed.
This year's theme is "PPA e-services: connecting for efficiency, quality and competitiveness," Director Gabrieles said. He added that the Agency has prepared various activities for the week-long celebration which commenced with a Motorcade along the City's major thoroughfares in the morning of July 21. This was followed by the Commemorative Program on the same day.
One of the highlights of the week-long celebration, Director Gabrieles said, is the Socials, Fellowship Night and Awarding Ceremonies on July 24, at 8:00 o'clock in the evening.
The Awarding Ceremonies will be held at the MacArthur Park Hotel and Resort Function Room. In this activity, the Parole and Probation Administration Region 8 will acknowledge the contributions and support of its partners both from the government and private sector, Director Gabrieles added.
The Parole and Probation Administration is an attached agency of the Department of Justice which provides a less costly alternative to imprisonment of offenders who are likely to respond to individualized community based treatment programs.
Under the Probation Law of 1976, PPA-DOJ is mandated to promote the correction and rehabilitation of an offender by providing him with individualized treatment. The PPA-DOJ also provide an opportunity for the reformation of a penitent offender which might be less probable if he were to serve a prison sentence; and prevent the commission of offenses.
PPA-DOJ's mission is to rehabilitate probationers, parolees and pardonees and promote their development as integral persons by utilizing innovative interventions and techniques which respect the dignity of and recognize his divine destiny. (PIA 8) [top]
