Tangub DepEd holds assessment exam for high school seniors

by Roldan A. Ponce

Cagayan de Oro City (29 August) -- THE Tangub City DepEd Division in Misamis Occidental held an assessment examination for 1,137 graduating high school students from public and private schools in Sumirap, Sta. Maria, Bongabong, Caniangan, Lorenzo Tan, Silangit, Banglay, St. Michael, and Tangub City National High School).

The examination was administered by the National Career Assessment Examination (NCAE) last August 27.

The program aims to minimize mismatch in students' career choices vis--vis their skills and measures the graduating student's potentials or inclination in such areas as technical-vocational aptitude (TVA), entrepreneurial skills, nonverbal ability and occupational interest.

Tangub City DepEd Coordinator Adolfo Monera said the test components are scientific ability, mathematical ability, reading comprehension, verbal ability, manipulative skills, clerical ability, non-verbal ability, and entrepreneurial skills.

The test results are recommendatory. The test is not a requirement for graduation or for admission to college, he added.

The Commission on Higher Education has forged an agreement with the Technical Education Skills Development Authority (TESDA) to take care of students who will be found to be not too academically inclined to get training in vocational or technical courses.

DepEd has also institutionalized vocational/technical instruction in coordination with TESDA.

Monera quoted Education Secretary Jesli Lapus as saying that the test will determine the course best suited to the students in college.

"The annual conduct of the NCAE gives the students and the parents an idea on the field of endeavor most suited to the graduating students thus allowing for better decision in their choice of career," he said.

There are about 1.5 million examinees this year, 20 percent more than last year's 1.2 million. This year, 1.2 examinees are from public schools while only 300,000 are from private schools, he added. (Tangub City IO/PIA-Tangub City i-Net)

Gov opens 2 more health stations, 1 daycare center in Camiguin

by Maria Christy M. Comcom

Cagayan de Oro City (29 August) -- Governor Jurdin Jesus M. Romualdo formally opened and turned-over newly completed barangay health stations and a day care center in two towns in Camiguin province last August 26.

Inaugurated and turned over to municipal chief executives were the Barangay Health Station of Hubangon in Mahinog town and the Barangay Health Station and Day Care Center of Alanginan in Sagay town.

Constructed under the provincial government's Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD) project, the Barangay Health Stations were built at a cost of P200,000 each, and the Day Care Center at a cost of P150,000.

The P20.6-million ECCD in Camiguin is a special partnership with the National Council for the Welfare of Children (NCWC) and financed by the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCor) under an 80% (NCWC)-20% (LGU) sharing scheme.

Gov. Romualdo, in his speech, stressed the vital importance of the projects, especially in promoting the health and basic education of children.

He urged parents to always encourage their children to go to school to be successful in the future.

Romualdo also exhorted parents to discourage their teenagers from joining shady groups or organizations as these might lead them to prohibited drugs and other bad vices that would take away their bright future.

The ceremonies were witnessed by Provincial Board Member Hermogenes B. Lobido, SP committee on social services chairman; members of the provincial, municipal and barangay ECCD coordinating committees; Sagay Mayor Domingo K. Talian; and barangay chairmen.
