ICC General Santos City (10 November) -- A nine-year-old boy was killed and six other teens were wounded when an armed group fired upon them while passing Barangay Langayen in Pikit, North Cotabato on board a family-owned Multicab vehicle Sunday morning.

It was learned that the teens were family members of Aleosan town Councilor Ungkay.

The injured victims were brought to Cotabato Regional Hospital in Cotabato City after having initial treatment at Cruzado Hospital in Pikit where Norkan Ungkay was pronounced dead.

PSSupt. Danny Reyes, Police Regional Office 12 spokesman said that according to police initial investigation the assailants "are believed to be the group of MILF leaders Buka Guialel and a certain 'Commander Bravo' who are at odds with the Ungkay Family in Dungguan, Aleosan."

He added that combined troops from the Alpha Company of the 7th IB and the Regional Mobile Groups 11 and 12 "are in hot pursuit" of the assailants who run off "towards Makasendeg, Pikit-Midsayap areas."

In a press statement, Central Mindanao Police Regional Director PCSupt. Felizardo M. Serapio Jr. strongly condemned the violence saying it has no placed in Region 12.

"Harassments and atrocities have no place in our region because they interfere with every person's fundamental right to a safe environment," he said.

He stressed that he has already ordered the police chief in Pikit to expedite and conduct thorough investigation of the incident.

"I have already directed the Chief of Police of Pikit to investigate this incident thoroughly, and hold accountable those who are responsible on harassing the Ungkay Family," Serapio added. (PIA SarGen) [top]
