Moises Padilla set to celebrate town's 58th charter

Negros Occidental (14 October) -- For the second time in 58 years since it became a chartered municipality in October 16, 1951, Moises Padilla formerly "Magallon" is set to celebrate its 58th Handurawan Charter Day Anniversary Celebration.

This quiet town at the heart of Negros, a two-hour drive from the capital city of Bacolod, Moises Padilla is a third class municipality with close to 40,000 population in the town's 15 barangays. The town's Internal Revenue Allocation of P39.9 – million.

In November 26, 1946, the Municipal Council of Isabela (Moises Padilla's mother town) and the Provincial Board of Negros Occidental in a joint session approved the resolution proposing the separation of Magallon, Odiong, and Guinpana-an with all their sitios to form into a municipality. In June 6, 1951, President Elpidio Quirino signed the proposal making it a full pledged municipality in October 16, 1951.

After more than five decades, the town led by first term Municipal Mayor Francisco Nazareno is yet again to celebrate its charter day anniversary dubbed as the 58th Handurawan Charter Day Anniversary Celebration.

"Moises Padilla has been blessed and was able to implement so many projects through the help of the provincial and national government, it high time to celebrate these blessings," Nazareno added.

Three hundred farmers from the town now benefits from the P24.3 –million Magallon Cadre Irrigation Project jointly funded by the Province of Negros Occidental and the Department of Agriculture.

The town is also a recipient of the more than P5-million KALAHI-CIDSS projects of the Department of Social Welfare and Development.

"Handurawan", the concept of this year's celebration is a way of looking back to the past. With the theme, "Banwa Ko, Sadto kag Karon", the local government of Moises Padilla is set to give recognition and honor to the past mayors of the town. (PIA/EAD) [top]
