Feature: NDPR week celebration

Cebu City (13 July) -- The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD-7) enjoins the public to extend full support to the observance of the "32nd National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation (NDPR) Week" on July 17-23, 2010.
With the theme, "Sa Istrukturang Accessible , Lahat ay Able," the NDPR week aims to highlight the nation's effort on the promotion of a barrier-free environment for People With Disability (PWD) sector in the country.
In order to create public awareness, the Regional Committee on Disability Affairs (RCDA-7) in Central Visayas encourages all institutions and government agencies to hang streamers, tarpaulins within the premises and other noticeable places in their respective areas.
The agencies may also conduct relevant activities suitable to the celebration such as Thanksgiving Mass and Wreath Laying Ceremony at the Mabini Shrine.
Family Fun Day of Persons with Disabilities, Paligsahan ng may "K" sa Kasaysayan at Kultura ng Pilipinas, Livelihood exhibits of Products Made by PWDs are also some of the activities that the sector can initiate.
According to the council, poster making contest, job fair, wellness and lifestyle seminar, orientation on the Accessibility Law and Universal Design Concept will be highlighted during the week.
Various agencies will also conduct community medical mission, sports activities and information and advocacy on the role of the PWD sector in community building.
The council has included the Commemoration of Mabini's Birthday on July 23 as an important activity of the PWDs as they look to Mabini as their hero.
Newborn screening, access various radio programs and other agency activities are encourage as part of mainstreaming disability agenda in as many forums as possible. (pia7/hfg) [top]
