Sarangani steps up efforts to sustain trade links with Indonesia
Glan, Sarangani (09 December) -- The Indonesian sea vessel servicing the Brunei Darussalam-Indonesia-Malaysia-The Philippines-East ASEAN Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA) Southern Gateway is nearing the completion of its first six voyages on the Glan-Tahuna trade route this December.
The Indonesian cargo ship, the KM Sunlia, currently operates on a bi-monthly schedule through the support of the Sangihe Regency's Regent Winsulangi Salendeho and in close partnership with the local government units (LGUs) and private sector officials from Glan and Tahuna. (+)
PH hosts third ASEAN regional seminar on industrial relations
Manila (24 November) -- The Philippines will be hosting the 3rd Regional Seminar on Industrial Relations of the Association of Southeast Asian Nation (ASEAN)-International Labor Organization (ILO)/Japan Industrial Relations Project at the Sofitel Philippine Plaza Hotel, PICC Complex, Pasay City.
About 50 delegates from member states of the ASEAN ? Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, and Japan are participating in the seminar with the theme, "Legal Framework and Practice for Labor Dispute and Settlement". (+)
ASEAN Children's Forum participants urge governments for tougher laws vs child pornography
San Fernando, Pampanga (26 October) -- Pass tougher measures against child pornography.
This is what the participants in the recently concluded 1st ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) Children's forum in Clark, Pampanga is asking their governments to do.
According to them, not all countries in the region have laws that directly address this issue that is why pedophiles and child pornographic website operators and video distributors only get minimal penalties. (+)
President Aquino to push for key initiatives in ASEAN Summit
Manila (22 October) -- President Benigno S. Aquino III is expected to push key initiatives on human rights, biodiversity, connectivity and culture at the 17th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit and related summits on October 28-30 in Ha Noi, Viet Nam.
President Aquino will lead the Philippine delegation to the ASEAN Summit. Earlier, he met with ASEAN leaders during the 2nd ASEAN-United States Leaders Meeting in New York on September 24, and also had bilateral meetings with the leaders of Vietnam, Malaysia and Singapore. (+)
ASEAN Children's Forum to be held in Clark
San Fernando City, Pampanga (19 October) -- The Philippines will play host to the first ever ASEAN Children's Forum that will be held on October 19-23, 2010 at the Fontana Resort inside the Clark Special Economic Zone in Pampanga.
The forum serves as a channel that will give voice to how children perceive current regional issues and how they can be resolved by governments with children and young people's participation and work to address children's concerns with a regional perspective. (+)
