PH hosts third ASEAN regional seminar on industrial relations
Manila (24 November) -- The Philippines will be hosting the 3rd Regional Seminar on Industrial Relations of the Association of Southeast Asian Nation (ASEAN)-International Labor Organization (ILO)/Japan Industrial Relations Project at the Sofitel Philippine Plaza Hotel, PICC Complex, Pasay City.
About 50 delegates from member states of the ASEAN ? Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, and Japan are participating in the seminar with the theme, "Legal Framework and Practice for Labor Dispute and Settlement". (+)
President Aquino to push for key initiatives in ASEAN Summit
Manila (22 October) -- President Benigno S. Aquino III is expected to push key initiatives on human rights, biodiversity, connectivity and culture at the 17th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit and related summits on October 28-30 in Ha Noi, Viet Nam.
President Aquino will lead the Philippine delegation to the ASEAN Summit. Earlier, he met with ASEAN leaders during the 2nd ASEAN-United States Leaders Meeting in New York on September 24, and also had bilateral meetings with the leaders of Vietnam, Malaysia and Singapore. (+)
RP is Asean's cultural capital for 2010-2011; PGMA to speak at Clark Gab
Manila (23 March) -- President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo will be the keynote speaker Thursday during the joint 4th Meeting of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) Ministers Responsible for Culture and Arts (AMCA) and the 7th Senior Officials Meeting for Culture and Arts (SOMCA) to be held in Clark Education City in Pampanga.
The Philippines has been designated the cultural capital for 2010 and 2011 by the 10 member-countries of Asean. (+)
PGMA to attend 15th ASEAN Summit
Manila (21 October) -- President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo will leave on October 23, 2009 to attend the 15th Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit and Related Summits at the seaside resorts of Cha-am and Hua Hin in Thailand on Oct. 23 to 25.
Presidential Deputy Spokesperson Lorelei Fajardo, in a press briefing in Malacanang today, said the President will join her ASEAN counterparts in announcing the establishment of an ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights. (+)
NEDA approves Asean-Korea Free Trade Agreement
Manila (1 April) -- Press Secretary Cerge Remonde announced yesterday that the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) Board, chaired by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, has approved the Asean-Korea Free Trade Agreement.
The agreement provides tariff elimination on 90 percent of lines in the normal track by January 1, 2009, Remonde said. (+)
