ASEAN to wage common effort against dengue
Manila (1 September) -- Department of Health Secretary Enrique T. Ona said health secretaries and ministers of member-countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) have agreed to wage a common effort against dengue.
At a press conference in Malacanang, September 1, Ona said that they discussed the seriousness of dengue in the Southeast Asia region during the recent ASEAN Health Ministers Meeting. (+)
Iloilo Port chosen pilot for sustainable port development in ASEAN region
Iloilo City (12 February) -- The Port of Iloilo was chosen as one of the only two pilot ports in the ASEAN region for Sustainable Port Development, as disclosed by Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) Manager Atty. Fernando Claveria.
The citation was given under the auspices of the ASEAN Port Authorities, the German Technical Cooperation and Partnerships in Environmental Management for the Seas of East Asia. (+)
Capiz to host ASEAN property rights forum

Roxas City (30 September) -- About 40 delegates from various member-nations of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) will gather here for the experts meeting on the recognition and protection of ASEAN Communal Property Rights on October 3 to 6 this year.
Provincial Tourism Officer Alphonsus Tesoro said that a welcome dinner will be ushered by the province for the ASEAN delegates that will be spiced up by a showcase of Visayan performing arts. (+)
ASEAN turns 42 on August 8

Roxas City (4 August) -- A flag raising ceremony of the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) flag at the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) grounds along Roxas Boulevard in Pasay City is set on August 10 in view of the 42nd ASEAN Day this year.
The association was established on 8 August 1967 in Bangkok by the five original member- countries namely Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand. (+)
RP, Vietnam to strengthen security ties

Manila (12 May) -- Secretary Ronaldo Puno of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) and Vietnamese Minister of Public Safety Le Hong Anh. is set to hold exploratory talks in the area of transnational crimes.
"We will discuss with Vietnamese officials ways of further strengthening Manila’s existing cooperation with Hanoi in the area of transnational crimes, particularly in winning the war against illegal drugs and in effectively dealing with the global threat of terrorism," Puno said. (+)
